Kosovo: premier, my goal is to indict Serbia for genocide

Kurti, 'no apologies for crimes, no reconciliation'

09 March, 18:06
(ANSA) - PRISTINA, MAR 9 - Kosovar Prime Minister Albin Kurti said today that his government's primary goal is to bring Serbia before the International Court of Justice for what he said was the genocide carried out in Kosovo during the war in the Nineties.

Speaking in parliament at a session focusing on the International Women's Day on March 8th, attended by many victims of sexual abuse perpetrated during the war, Kurti said that no reconciliation would be possible without recognition of the crimes and apologies.

This issue, he added, will be the key theme of dialogue with Serbia, given its resumption. His government, the Prime Minister underlined, is preparing to file a complaint against Belgrade for genocide before international justice.

"It will be a long way to go as we want to make sure we will be successful in the trial, but we have already started moving to reach this goal, " said Kurti. In continuing the dialogue, he added, he will ask that Serbia is held responsible for all the damage and suffering caused in Kosovo, "I will ask for justice on behalf of the victims of sexual abuse. " "So far all of this has not been dealt with in dialogue with Serbia. We want to change things because there can be no reconciliation without apologies. Without punishment for war crimes there can be no pacification," said the premier.

According to Kurti "silence and disregard cover and defend crimes." Some of the victims of sexual abuse spoke during the session in parliament. (ANSA).
