Kosovo: EBRD finances biggest wind farm in country

Bank will lend 58 million euro for the project

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 17 DEC - The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is lending 58 million euro for the construction and operation of the 105 MW Bajgora wind farm in the north of Kosovo, the largest wind farm in the country, the EBRD announced.

This loan will cover half of the total required financing for the project, with rest provided by Erste Group Bank and NLB Bank, the EBRD said.

When completed, Bajgora will represent about 10 per cent of Kosovo's installed capacity and will help Kosovo to benefit from a new source of clean energy. Kosovo currently relies mostly on lignite for its electricity production. "This will be the largest electricity plant constructed in Kosovo since the 1980s and represents a major step forward in Kosovo's energy transition," EBRD remarked. (ANSA).
