Serbia:EU, slowdown, due to weak Eurozone and Kosovo tariffs

Growth above 3% in 2019 and 2020, but exports are decreasing

(ANSA) - BRUSSELS, MAY 8 - The slowdown in the main EU countries and the imposition of tariffs (on Serbian goods) by Kosovo will hold back Serbia's economic growth in 2019. That is what the European Commission wrote in its spring forecasts, estimating for Serbia a growth of 3.1% in 2019, and even stronger, 3.8%, in 2020. Exports from Serbia will decrease this year, due to slower growth in the main trading partners, the EC reported. However, domestic demand will continue to be strong thanks to rising wages, better labor market conditions, and household spending.

The unemployment rate, according to the EC, should fall to 11% this year from 12.7% in 2018, and to 9.0% in 2020. According to EU estimates, inflation should get closer to reaching the 3% target set by the national bank. (ANSA).
