(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 18 DIC - Croatia will increase to almost 64,000 the annual quota of foreign work permits in 2019, local media reported.

The Balkan country, as many others in Central- and Eastern Europe, are facing increasing problems related to labour shortage.

The quota in Croatia had massively increased from around 9,000 in 2017 to 38,000 for 2018, the regional Tv N1 said.

Next year, according to information published by the daily Vecernji List, for the first time Croatia will also import some 200 nurses, to cover 50 vacancies in the health care system and another 150 at retirement homes. The demand for foreign labour is higher in the construction industry, with 18,500 workers needed, tourism and hospitality (15,400), agriculture and forestry (3,530), transport (2,314) and the metal industry (2,200).
