No-deal between EU and Kosovo to revoke Pristina's tariffs

Joint press conference Mogherini-Haradinaj in Brussels cancelled

17 December, 20:46
(ANSA) - BRUXELLES, 17 DIC - European Union and Kosovo failed today to reach an agreement for the immediate withdrawal of tariffs imposed by the Kosovar government led by Ramush Haradinaj on goods imported from Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina. Today's EU-Kosovo Association and Stabilization Council took place today in Brussels in a very tense atmosphere. The final joint press conference of EU High Representative Federica Mogherini and Haradinaj, scheduled as usual at the end of the meeting, was cancelled.

"The EU deeply regretted the government's unilateral tariff increases on imports from Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina" and "insisted on their immediate revocation", Kocijanic said, reiterating that "any impediments to trade should be resolved within the appropriate fora", with "a spirit of regional cooperation". During the meeting, EU called on Haradinaj to "accelerate and intensify the work in good faith" on the dialogue with Belgrade - facilitated by the EU - to reach "a legally binding agreement on comprehensive normalisation between Kosovo and Serbia".
