Macedonia: Fitch Solutions, country catching up with peers

Next two years growth will match average in the Balkans

(ANSA) - BELGRADE - After growing null in 2017, the economy of Macedonia will continue to recovery in the next two years, catching up with other countries in the Western Balkans, Fitch Solutions said in a commentary on Thursday.

Macedonia will record a GDP growth of 2.6% in 2018 that will accelerate to 3.4% by 2020, in particular due to "robust consumption and a recovery in investment supported by improvements in the political climate," Fitch Solutions forecasted.

Macedonia "will gradually catch up with regional peers in the Western Balkans - including Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia - where we estimate aggregate economic activity will strengthen to 3.7% in 2018, up from 2.8% on the previous year," the commentary reads.
