Migrants: Kurz, initiative to protect them outside the EU

'Contacts in progress, trying to find a common sense solution'

(ANSA) - BRUSSELS, JUNE 6 - In order to deal with migration, we have put in place ''an Austrian national initiative, not an initiative by the EU's rotating presidency, with a group of other EU member countries, including Denmark, so that migrants will be able to find protection outside Europe. In this way they can have protection if necessary, but they will not have the possibility of choosing the country that is more congenial to them, when they apply for asylum'', said Austrian premier Sebastian Kurz during a press conference in Brussels.

''This is a small group of member states, contacts are underway, and we are trying to find a common sense solution, we have already made progress, and we will let you know when we'll achieve the final result'', Austria's chancellor said speaking during a joint press conference with the EC president Jean Claude Juncker. ''You know my approach - he continued -, migrants arrive in Europe through different countries, and can apply for asylum according to their preferences, but in my opinion this is not the right approach''.(ANSA).
