(ANSA) - SKOPJE - In Macedonia, the additional electoral campaign for the second round of local election scheduled for Sunday will close today at midnight. The second round is scheduled in 35 municipalities; mayors in 45 other municipalities in the country were elected two weeks ago, including the capital city, Skopje, now ruled by Social Democrat Petre Shilegov, after several years of conservative predominance.

Meanwhile, the Social Democrats (Sdsm) largely won the first round, prevailing in 37 out of 45 mayoral elections, compared to only three won by the conservative party Vmro-Dpmne, and two won by Dui, the ethnic Albanian minority party. On Sunday, Macedonians will vote again in many important towns such as Tetovo, Gostivar, Stip, Struga, Vinica, but also in several autonomous municipalities referring to Skopje municipality.

Sunday all polling stations will remain open across the country from 7am to 7pm. (ANSA).
