(ANSA) - TRIESTE - Seventy-seven drawings by Giambattista
Tiepolo, owned by the Civic Museums of History and Art of
Trieste, were sent to the ''Narodna Galerija'' in Ljubljana in
order to be shown from June 1 to September 3 at the exhibition
''Giambattista Tiepolo 1696-1770 Drawings'', wanted and promoted
by the Italian Embassy in the Slovenian capital.
The exhibition features a significant selection of pieces from
the Civic Museo Sartorio (Trieste), testifying the multifaceted
nature of Giambattista Tiepolo's talent, a symbol of the 18th
century Venetian art.
In 1910 the Civic Museums got hold of the collection which
belonged to Baron Giuseppe Sartorio, composed of 254 sheets, one
of the most important in the graphic corpus of 18th century
Venetian painting.
Sartorio, a passionate art collector from Trieste, bought it at
the antique shop run in the city by Giuseppe Zanolla, with the
aim of giving it to the city. At the outbreak of World War I,
the drawings migrated to Ljubljana and returned to Trieste on
June 21, 1941. (ANSA).
