Croatia: Stelli new president of Society of Fiuman studies

"Continuity for Italian cultural identity protection"

(ANSA) - TRIESTE - Professor Giovanni Stelli was elected new president of the Society of Fiuman studies in Rijeka (Croatia).

Stelli was born in Rijeka in 1941. He is a historian and philosopher. Stelli has been for many years the Society's vice president and is editorial director of the Adriatic studies magazine "Fiume". He is also author of books and essays on the history of Rijeka/Fiume.

Stelli was appointed by the executive committee and replaces the outgoing Amleto Ballarini, remained in office for 24 years.

The new president announced plans to proceed "in the name of continuity to protect the Italian cultural identity in Fiume".
