Balkans: Serracchiani, culture antidote to walls

Udine, Forum of Aquileia Euroregion started today

21 October, 15:10

(ANSA) - UDINE - "Friuli Venezia Giulia is by its nature open to international relations and in the last three years we have succeeded in achieving important results: we are the only Italian region to have a bilateral treaty with the German Land of Bavaria and to have signed agreements with the Islamic Republic of Iran ''. The President of the FVG Region, Debora Serracchiani, underlined these results while opening the 12th Forum of Aquileia Euroregion, organized by the cultural association Mitteleuropa, focusing on the topic '' Europe from the Atlantic to the Urals or between the Atlantic and the Urals? ''. The Forum, which is going on until October 22, is attended by six ambassadors and several representatives of the institutions and economy of 11 countries in Central and Eastern Europe. After thanking the Mitteleuropa Association and his president, the honorary consul Paul Petiziol, Serracchiani added that '' The Region has had excellent results in an ever more complex international environment, where good relationships and strong alliances with our neighbours, such as Slovenia and Austria, Croatia and Serbia, are very important ''. ''Among the tools we have used - the governor stated -, culture was one of the most important, and Friuli Venezia Giulia has now the task of maintaining and strengthening these relationships and develop more ties, by using dialogue, which is the most effective antidote to raising fences and walls''.
