Ukraine, 4,000 soldiers on parade in 'western' uniforms

Kiev celebrates 25th anniversary of independence

(ANSA) - KIEV - Ukraine celebrated the 25th anniversary of independence wednesday with a military parade in the centre of Kiev with the participation of 4,000 soldiers dressed in new uniforms designed according to the style of western ones.

Ukrainian troops - still engaged in the conflict in the Donbass against pro-Russian separatists - thus want to break with the Soviet legacy. On the military badges, diamonds will take the place of stars. The new uniforms also feature some symbols of Ukrainian Liberation Army, dating back to 1917-1919. (ANSA).
