(ANSA) - TRIESTE, 29 GIU - Romania, the country which already boasts broadband Internet speed above the EU average, could soon start realising 10% of its GDP from the IT sector, according to Teodor Blidarius, the President of the Association of workers in software industry (Anis), as reported by Romania Insider.

According to the data of the National Bureau for the statistics, the IT sector contributed 5.6% to Romania's GDP in 2015, while in the first quarter of 2016 the figure rose to 6.1%.

The IT services sector grew by 21% last year compared to 2014, amounting to three billion euros. The growth of the sector mainly relied on services export, with more than two billion turnover in 2015 - 31% more than the year before.

The most important challenge of the local IT industry is finding enough specialists to support the growing demand, Blidarius said, underlining that the number of workers in the sector will reach 90,000 by the end of the year. "If we had 120-140 thousand specialists today, they would all have a job", he concluded. (ANSA).
