Bosnia: Serbia asks Russia to block Srebrenica resolution

According to media 'Moscow should use veto power'

(ANSA) - BELGRADE - Serbia should ask Russia to veto the resolution which the UN Security Council will vote on next month, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of 1995 Srebrenica massacre, according to daily Danas (Belgrade), citing today a source within the Serbian presidency.

The draft of this resolution, developed by the British representative to the UN, has drawn sharp criticism from many in Serbia, where the document is deemed unbalanced, not objective and aimed at discrediting Serbia's international reputation. ''We do not have a good feeling about the Srebrenica resolution. The horror of Srebrenica has always been politicized in such a disgusting manner'', according to the source within the presidency quoted by the newspaper.

''The events occurred in Srebrenica were not an isolated case and took place during a Civil War, after numerous massacres of Serb civilians, even in Srebrenica''. For this reason, the source says ''Serbia should seek Russian support in the Security Council, in order to block this resolution''.

Official commemorations of the 20th anniversary of 1995 Srebrenica massacre are scheduled for July 11. In the Bosnian town, 8,000 Muslims were killed by Bosnian Serb troops under the command of General Ratko Mladic, currently on trial for war crimes at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY).
