Former Czech prime minister Stanislav Gross dies at age 45

He suffered from ALS. Premier in 2004, resigned a year later

(ANSA) - PRAGUE - Former Social Democrat Prime Minister Stanislav Gross has died in Prague at the age of 45. This news has been confirmed by his wife Sarka, who spoke to the daily Pravo. In the last few years, Pravo was suffering from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

In 2004, at the age of 34, he became the youngest prime minister of the Czech Republic, but in April 2005 he was then forced to resign after a scandal over the financing of his luxury apartment.

In September of the same year, he resigned from the post of leader of the Social Democrat Party (CSSD). Professional machinist, he had studied law in the nineties and after leaving politics he had worked as a lawyer in a law firm.(ANSA).
