(ANSA) - ZAGREB - The value of the grey economy in Croatia is
around 30% of the country's GDP - well above the 18% European
average, according to the worker union representatives.
The data, well above of the official numbers of the Croatian
Statistical office (10%), emerged during a conference held in
Zagreb in which Government and company representatives were also
present.
According to the worker unions, two thirds of the grey economy
are due to irregular workers, particularly present in the
construction and tourism sector, as well as in seasonal
agriculture jobs.
According to the Statistics office of Croatia, the
calculations which bring the estimate at 30% are not reliable
from the methodological point of view. (ANSA).
