Europe leaders choose Poland PM and Italian FM for EU jobs
Tusk urges to combine discipline and budget
30 August, 20:51(ANSA) - BRUXELLES - The European Council appointed Donald Tusk, the Prime Minister of Poland as its new President and Federica Mogherini, the current Italian foreign minister, as High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
The main goal, for Tusk, is to "combine fiscal discipline and growth", "a possible challenge", according to the Polish prime minister. During the press conference after the summit, Tusk talked about Ukraine's crisis. "Our goal is to bring peace, thanks to an intelligent compromise. I'm convinced that the EU will reach a common position", Tusk said.
EU faces "huge challenges" in foreign policy, said Federica Mogherini, thanking Europe leaders for their trust. Italy's Head of State, Giorgio Napolitano, has congratulated Mogherini, while the PM, Matteo Renzi, has wished her "good job" with a tweet.
