(ANSA) - WARSAW - The estimates of illegal activities, such as
prostitution, drugs trafficking, alcohol and cigarette smuggling
will be included in national accounts in order to calculate
Polish GDP. This decision, which was announced by GUS, the
Central Statistical Office of Poland, was made on the basis of
the EU's directive that establishes the adoption of a new
calculation system, called ESA 2010, by next September.
According to GUS, the inclusion of the estimates of illegal
activities in GDP could produce an increase by - at least - one
percentage point: pursuant to a survey recently conducted, the
total value of these activities was 1,17% of GDP in 2010,
whereas in previous years it was between 0,98% and 1,31%.
