Slovenian government decided increase of excise duties

After tax on property was stopped by theHigh Court

11 April, 15:56
(ANSA) - LJUBLJANA - The Slovenian government has announced the first set of measures to maintain balance in the Finance Act 2014 after the property tax, which was supposed to bring into the state coffers 200 million euros, was declared illegitimate by the Constitutional Court.

The government has decided to increase the excise duty on alcohol (10%), tobacco (5%) and fuel (2%). The increase in revenue for the state should be about 50 million, of which 30 million euros from the fuel sector, 5.8 million from the alcoholic beverages industry and 14 million from the tobacco industry.

Alongside the increase in excise duty, the government is planning to lay a hand on a further rationalization of the public sector (savings from 40 up to 50 million euros) and is confident about getting new and more revenue from dividends of state owned subsidiary companies (about 42 million euros).
