Serracchiani to Almunia, EU aids should not disadvantage FVG

Attention to regions next to 'higher aid intensity areas'

01 June, 16:39

(ANSA) - TRIESTE - Europe must pay a particular attention in order not to worsen the economic situation of the regions which are 'next' to areas where is recorded a high differential in Eu aid intensity, a situation that Friuli Venezia Giulia has already dealt with in regard to Slovenia and will happen again soon in correspondence to Croatia's entry into the EU'', said the president of the FVG, Debora Serracchiani, in a note sent to Vice-President and EU Commissioner for Competition, Joaquin Almunia.

In the note, Serracchiani informs that the Region is following with '' extreme caution'' the negotiations upon the revision of the European guidelines concerning national aids for Regions in the period 2014-2020. '' The international economic crisis - she said - is seriously affecting even the sectors of excellence in our region, including the districts of Forniture and Chair, with a multitude of small and medium-sized firms that have heavily suffered from the effects of credit crunch and are late in terms of implementation of new market strategies.'' Serracchiani then asks Almunia ''to introduce in the new guidelines some orientations in order not to disadvantage some territories, such as Friuli Venezia Giulia, which may suffer because of the meaning which is usually assigned to the definition of a ''border region''. It 'true that we do not share a border with Croatia, but this border is only 30 kilometres away from our territory.'' (ANSA).
