(ANSA) - UDINE - The Multinational Land Force (MLF) is a land force (brigade) trained to conduct peacekeeping operations in the framework of the ''Petersberg Declaration'' including combat tasks. Founded on a political-military Italo-Slovenian-Hungarian inititative in 1998, the MLF operates in a geographic area that includes Central and Eastern Europe and South-Eastern Europe, in operation theaters characterized by rugged and uncomfortable terrain, or with poor mobility and in harsh weather conditions.

The MLF or any portion of it, may be asked to operate ''outside the European Union'', especially as a humanitarian, peacekeeping, preventive or interposition force. This is what happened in Kosovo, where the MLF participated in the operations 'Decisive Endeavour' (from November 12, 2003 to May 19, 2004) and 'Joint Enterprise' (from November 21, 2005 to May 15, 2006), and again in Afghanistan, by participating in the operations 'Isaf' (from October 6, 2008 to April 3, 2009 and from October 18, 2010 to April 4, 2011) and as 'Regional Command West' in Herat (from March 24 to 10 September 10, 2013) .
