Romania,Fincantieri to build 2km long bridge over the Danube

Bono, we are ready for former Morandi with Piano for Genoa

(ANSA) - VENICE, NOV 29 - Fincantieri will build a 2km bridge over the Danube in Romania, with a single 1km span in the central part, the CEO of Fincantieri Giuseppe Bono announced today in Marghera (Venice) at the presentation event of the 99.500 Nieuw Statendam cruise ship. The bridge over the Danube will be the longest in Romania and the third longest in Europe. Fincantieri will use the Braila shipyard -which is located a few kilometers away from the works - in collaboration with Astaldi and the Japanese IHI. Bono underlined that Fincantieri, adopting the project designed by Renzo Piano, with Salini-Impregilo is ready to apply for the replacement of the former Morandi bridge in Genoa using ''the best of Italy's technology and skills''.

The bridge over the Danube will be built by Fincantieri, through its subsidiary Fincantieri Infrastructure, and contruction works will begin in June 2019. The value of the contract for Fincantieri is approximately 70m euros and the works will last approximately 24 months. The building site will employ about 200 workers for the construction and assembly of the 79 steel blocks (20,000 tonnes of materials). Construction and engineering activities will be carried out at the Valeggio sul Mincio plant (Verona), formerly the Cordioli & C. headquarters, recently acquired by Fincantieri Infrastructure. ''This achievement is of extraordinary strategic importance for us - Bono said - because it allows us to consolidate our presence in a highly specialized market which has a great potential: Fincantieri Infrastructure will be the first Italian company to take part in the construction of a suspension bridge of that size''.
