(ANSA) - TRIESTE, NOVEMBER 15 - The mission of the Port of
Trieste in Munich (Germany), ended yesterday was aimed at
presenting the new railway investments and the new development
plans of the Port of Trieste.
According to Bavarian operators and institutions, Trieste has
been confirmed as the major hub in the Mediterranean Sea for
trade with the Far East.
Especially now, given that Europe is paying close attention
to China and the One Belt One Road project, ''Trieste becomes an
important international hub and rail port'' said Zeno
D'Agostino, president of the Port Network Authority - thanks to
its strategic geographic position, capability to accommodate
large ocean ships and daily direct rail connections throughout
Europe''.
The event organized by the Port Network Authority of the
Eastern Adriatic Sea, in collaboration with the Italo-German
Chamber of Commerce and the patronage of the Italian Embassy in
Berlin, took place at the The Chamber of Commerce and Industry
for Munich and Upper Bavaria.
D'Agostino presented investments, numbers and statistics and
underlined the steps forward taken in the railway sector,
through an investments of around 110 million, and the port's
strategic role the economy of the Fvg Region and for the Italian
Government.
As far as railway relations are concerned - a press release
reported - 30% of the trains from the Julian port go to Germany;
in the first half of 2018, 1,467 trains were recorded on this
route, with an increase of almost 12% compared to the first half
of 2017. (ANSA).
