(ANSA) - BELGRADE - A delegation from the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) has visited Croatia to assess the readiness of the country to become a CERN associate member, the Croatian public television HRT reported.

HRT specified that the CERN delegation visited private and public institutions, including the Zagreb University and the Rudjer Boskovic Institute, a leading research institution in Croatia.

If CERN will accept Croatia as an associate member, the country will receive a grant of one million Swiss francs and will be included in major research projects, HRT noted. Currently, according to the CERN official website, Croatia is included in the group of non-member states with co-operation agreements with CERN. CERN has at the moment 22 member states, with Cyprus, Serbia and Slovenia as associate Members States in the pre-stage to membership. (ANSA).
