Nokia invests 73 M in its telecom operations in Timisoara

In IoT, big data and new mobile communications technologies

(ANSA) - BUCHAREST - Finland-based Nokia expands its campus in Timisoara with the largest Research and Development center in the Romanian telecommunications industry, following a total investment of EUR 73 million.

According to a press release, the center develops broadband wireless technologies that are implemented in areas such as Internet of Things (IoT), big data and new mobile communications technologies.

''During 25 years of presence and innovation in Romania, we have been a key contributor to the development of the telecommunications in this country and in this region. We have built one of the most experienced team in this industry and have developed close and fruitful relationships with the universities and local ecosystem. With such an investment in the new campus, with the significant development of the R&D, the network operations and the services centers, we are fully equipped and committed to deliver great value and continuous innovation to our customers,'' Raoul Ros, Country Senior Officer and General Manager, Nokia Romania, stated.

As a result of the expansion, the new Nokia Campus in Timisoara will cover an area of 27,000 square meters. Currently, more than 1,300 employees joined already the new campus. 600 engineers in the newly launched R&D department and over 700 specialists working in the global network operation center, which was opened in the first stage of the Timisoara team's relocation in December 2015. The third and final phase of the team's relocation to Nokia Campus will be completed in H1 of 2018.

According to The Romania Journal, Nokia currently has 1,600 employees in Romania and 300 new jobs will be available by the end of the year. (ANSA).
