(ANSA-AFP) - VIENNA, DEC 2 - Austria's ex-chancellor
Sebastian Kurz, long hailed a political whizz kid until
resigning after being implicated in a corruption investigation,
is expected to announce he is leaving politics, reports said
Thursday. The conservative, who became the world's youngest
democratically elected head of government aged 31 in 2017, will
hold a press conference at 11:30 am (1030 GMT) with media
reporting he would resign as head of his party and as a
lawmaker. In a spectacular turn of events, the now 35-year-old
stepped down as chancellor in October, shortly after he was
implicated in a sweeping corruption investigation. He dismisses
any allegation of wrongdoing and remained at the helm of his
conservative People's Party (OeVP). He became a member of
parliament after resigning as chancellor. But tabloid newspaper
Kronen Zeitung cited sources close to Kurz as saying that the
recent birth of his son made him want to step back from
politics. Austrian news agency APA confirmed the report.
