(ANSA) - BRUXELLES - "Montenegro is proving to be a very solid and very reliable member" of NATO, "and I welcome its clear plan to invest 2% of GDP in defence by 2024", NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, said during a joint press conference with the President of Montenegro Milo Djukanovic, in Brussels. Tomorrow Montenegro will celebrate its first year as a member of the Atlantic Alliance.

During this year, Podgorica "has contributed to Euro-Atlantic security and has helped promote stability in the Western Balkans", "stepping up" NATO contributions to missions in Afghanistan and Kosovo, Stoltenberg underlined.

NATO Secretary General and Montenegro's President have also discussed the relationship with Russia. "We agreed that our dual-track policy of deterrence and dialogue is the right one", Stoltenberg pointed out, adding that "dialogue with Russia is even more important when tensions are high". (ANSA).
