(ANSA) - ZAGREB - The share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources in Croatia has been constantly and strongly growing in recent years, and reaching in August almost 16% of the total demand in the country, according to data released today by the Croatian Energy Association. 995 power plants based on energy from renewable sources are currently operating in the country, and they produce 365 megawatts per year. Most of the country's energy, 75% percent, comes from 15 wind farms, while the rest is generated by solar panels.

Croatia's government expects that by 2020 - thanks to many incentives - 20% of the electricity will be generated using renewable energy sources: a considerable growth if you think that just ten years ago the total amount was below 5%. (ANSA).
