(ANSA) - TRIESTE - A multi-year cooperation agreement was concluded between the Teatro Lirico Giuseppe Verdi Foundation in Trieste and the Slovenian National Theatre in Maribor. The announcement was given today during the presentation of the new opera and ballet season in Maribor.

The agreement will start during the current symphony season in Trieste, with the participation of the Choir of the Maribor Theatre at one of the concerts. In December 2017, Trieste will also host "Giselle" produced by Maribor Theatre and in February 2018 the Verdi Orchestra will hold a concert in the Slovenian city. From the next season, a Maribor Theatre's special subscription will offer a selected program also in Trieste and Zagreb. The Trieste-Maribor collaboration will culminate in the co-production of "Andrea Chénier" in 2019.

"Opera has a tremendous potential to consolidate a new audience circuit in this part of Europe", highlighted the Verdi's Superintendent Stefano Pace. He added that "Slovenia is a country with a very high musical culture, rich in high-quality professionals and educated audiences, accustomed to moving and making quality choices. After the agreement with Ljubljana Theatre, this new deal strengthens Verdi as an international theatre". (ANSA).
