Poland: Supreme Court refuse to detain Polanski

The director had sex with a 13 years old girl

(ANSA) - TRIESTE, 6 DIC - Poland's Supreme Court confirmed a refusal to detain and extradite filmmaker Roman Polanski to the U.S. if he enters Poland. Oscar winner Polanski is wanted in the US over a decades-old case involving sex with a girl aged 13.

"Game over," said Jan Olszewski, one of Polanski's lawyers. "The case is definitively closed". Polanski is subject to an Interpol warrant in 188 countries: he has avoided extradition travelling only between France, Switzerland and Poland. The Supreme Court rejected the request by Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro, appealing to overturn the extradition refusal decided by a lower court in Krakow. In 1977 Polanski pleaded guilty for having sex with the girl during a photo shoot in Los Angeles, but after 42 days in prison he fled the U.S. The U.S. asked Poland last year to extradite him.
