Hungary, Uber stops operating due to new law

Budapest allows only taxi service with traditional dispatching

14 July, 19:38
(ANSA) - TRIESTE, 14 LUG - Uber will suspend its operations in Hungary as of July 24th, due to the entrance in vigour of a new law which allows only taxi companies that use traditional dispatching service to operate, Hungarian media reported quoting an announcement made by the management of Uber.

"Our Budapest operations were among the best ones in Europe, but in this moment we and our nearly 1,200 Hungarian partners cannot offer our services due to the new regulations which prevent innovation and entrepreneurship", Robbie Khazzam, Uber's regional manager for Central and Eastern Europe said in a note, adding that he hoped the suspension would be only temporary.
