(ANSA) - PRAGUE - The mosaics of Ravenna are in the spotlight in
Prague starting February 12, since the Italian Cultural
Institute hosts some important events. Among them, the
conference ''MosaiCONtempo, from the mosaics of Ravenna to the
present day'', focusing on the history and restoration of the
mosaics, to be attended by Italian, German, Spanish, Polish and
Czech specialists.
This meeting - organized by Art & Craft Mozaika and the
Institute under the patronage of the Italian embassy in Prague,
along with the German diplomatic mission and the Academy of Fine
Arts in the Czech capital - will be accompanied by the opening
of an exhibition: ''The ancient mosaics of Ravenna'', including
a section dedicated to today's mosaics (open until March 30,
2016), through which the 'capital city' of Romagna presents its
extraordinary artistic heritage presents in the Czech public,
thanks to the collaboration between the city of Ravenna, the Iic
of Prague and Art & Craft Mozaika.
''We are proud to welcome these events in our Institute'', the
Italian ambassador to the Czech Republic, Aldo Amati, and the
director of the Italian Cultural Institute in Prague, Giovanni
Scioli, said. The mosaics on display are replicas made in the
50s, coming from the Mausoleum of Galla Placida, the Churches of
San Vitale, Sant'Apollinare Nuovo and Sant'Apollinare in Classe,
the Neoniano Baptistery and the Archbishop's Chapel. Works made
by twenty-six contemporary European artists will be exhibited
alongside Ravenna masterpieces. (ANSA).
