Industry: Czech Republic top toy exporter in the EU
Germany second. Main extra-EU markets USA, Switzerland, Russia
27 December, 20:03Official figures from the EU statistical office show that 25 per cent of toys exported from the European Union in 2017 originated from Czechia, followed by Germany, with 21%. The estimates of Eurostat were confirmed by a UniCredit report, quoted by Radio Praha, that recalls that, "along with neighboring Slovakia, the Czech Republic has been the fastest-growing toy exporter in the EU since 2004." "The Czech Republic took over this lead position in the European market in terms of exports of toys from Germany in 2012, mainly because of a shift of production of Lego toys from Western countries," UniCredit bank senior economist Patrik Rozumbersky told Radio Praha. "Construction sets, or toy blocks from plastics, and miniature models play the biggest role in total toy exports from the Czech Republic," Rozumbersky added.
According to Eurostat, the main non-EU destinations for EU toys are the United States, Switzerland (both accounting for 15% of exports) and Russia (14%). (ANSA).
