Germany: composite PMI index hit record low since September

May, it fell to 53.1. Decline in services and industry

(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 23 - In Germany, the composite PMI index, which monitors the performance of the manufacturing and services sectors, has dropped to its record low in the last 20 months, since September 2016.

In May, there was a decline to 53.1 points from 54.6 in April.

These figures are reported in the preliminary reading by Markit, which also underlines the fall of new orders to their lowest levels in the last three years, since July 2015 (to 52.3 points from 53.5 in April). In detail, the manufacturing PMI index fell to 56.8 in May (from 58.1 in April), dropping to its lowest level since February 2017, whereas the index of services fell to 52.1 (from 53 in April), the lowest level since September 2016.
