From 1/20 movies from Central-Eastern Europe back in Trieste

Monica Bellucci awarded 'Eastern Star Award 2017'

(ANSA) - TRIESTE - From January 20 to 29 the Trieste Film Festival is back, as the first and most important event in Italy dedicated to the movies from Central and Eastern Europe, founded on the eve of the fall of the Berlin Wall. Directed by Fabrizio Grosoli and Nicoletta Romeo, the exhibition will open with the premiere - out of competition - of 'The Teacher', new film by Jan Hebejk, Oscar nominee in 2000 along with Divided We Fall, to be screened soon. The film, set in Bratislava in 1983, when Czechoslovakia began to look beyond the Iron Curtain, through the figure of a teacher only seemingly gentle and reassuring.

Even in this 28th edition, the Festival has three international sections dedicated to feature films, short films and documentaries, and the winners will be decided by the public.

Ten movies, all in Italian premiere, make up the International Competition of feature films: 'A Good Wife', directed by Serbian actress Mirjana Karanovi, and ' On The Other Side ' by Croatian director Zrinko Ogresta; Greece's 'Amerika Square' by Yannis Sakaridis, Romania's ' By the rails' by Ctlin Mitulescu, Hungary's 'It's not the time of my life', directed and performed by Szabolcs Hajdu, Slovenia's 'Nightlife' by Damjan Kozole, Bulgaria's 'Glory' by Kristina Grozeva and Petar Valchanov, Czech Republic's 'Olga Hepnarov' by Tom Weinreb and Petr Kazda, Poland's 'Playground' by Bartosz M. Kowalski, and the Italian-Austrian co-production ' Mr Universe ' by Tizza Covi and Rainer Frimmel. Out of competition, the posthumous tribute to Andrzej Wajda, with 'Afterimage' (Powidoki), portrait of the great painter Wladyslaw Strzemiski, and the renovated version of 'The valley of peace' (Dolina miru), one of the classics of the Slovenian postwar, signed by Oscar nominee Stiglic France, presented in 1957 in competition at the Cannes Film Festival. In the final, the last films by Emir Kusturica 'On The Milky Road', a love story during an unspecified civil war, where the same Kusturica and Monica Bellucci play the main roles. Italian actress will be awarded - on January 28 - the Eastern Star Award 2017, prize that each year is assigned to one of the world film personalities who, through his work, helped to build a bridge between Eastern and Western Europe.
