Ukraine suspends participation in the assembly of the COE

Foreign Minister, it has lost credibility

25 June, 17:49
(ANSA) - MOSCOW, JUNE 25 - The Ukrainian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe has decided to stop participating in the assembly following the decision to readmit Russia, Ukrainian TV broadcaster 112 reported. The delegation then called on the Rada to urgently assess the possible halt to the work of the Assembly. The president and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs then asked to evaluate Ukraine's further participation in the bodies of the Council of Europe.

"What happened at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe shows a shift in the standards, principles, and values declared by the Council of Europe and is due to the unprecedented pressure and financial blackmail of the Russian Federation", said Ukraine's foreign ministry in a press release published on its website. "Unfortunately this happened because of the open connivance of a number of countries whose leadership emphasized the need to end Russia's aggression against Ukraine and at the same time encourage the aggressor making concessions", the press release reads. "On the 70th anniversary of its foundation, the Assembly of the Council of Europe lost its credibility and can no longer play the role it was given by its founding fathers". (ANSA).
