Kosovo: Thaci, 'military response to Serbian threats'

President against an international conference

15 March, 17:21
(ANSA) - BELGRADE, MAR 15 - ''Kosovo's response to 'Serbian threats' will be military, we are a sovereign country'', said president Hashim Thaci. ''Kosovo will respond if Serbia does not give up its bellicose rhetoric'', the Kosovar president added, cited by the Serbian media. In recent days, referring to media rumors about possible actions by Kosovo police units to ensure that the Trepca mine (northern Kosovo) remains under control, Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic said that ''Pristina should not play with fire'', and added, ''Serbia will react''. Thaci said at the same time that a division of Kosovo would never be allowed. ''We will defend our integrity and independence at all costs,'' he said, adding that he was opposed to a possible international conference on Kosovo since this would involve Russia. According to Thaci, the idea of a 'Balkan Union' is also dangerous. ''To us the EU is important - he said - since our future depends on Nato and EU membership, not on a regional Union''.(ANSA).
