War veterans protest with roadblocks

01 March, 14:35
(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 1 MAR - Today the 26th anniversary of the 1992 independence referendum is celebrated in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, one of the two political entities that compose Bosnia and Herzegovina. Most of the people in Republika Srpska, the mainly Serbian political entity, do not observe the 'Independence Day' and still see the 1992 referendum as illegal.

The turnout at the referendum was 64 percent, with over 99 percent of people voting for a sovereign and independent Bosnia-Herzegovina. Protests were organized on February 28 by formers soldiers from the Federation. Veterans who fought in the 1992-95 war organized blocks on major roads in various parts of the country, demanding more benefits and better economical treatment. Most of the roadblocks were removed during the past night, local media reported today. (ANSA).
