(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 02 AUG - The economy in Montenegro will grow by 3.1% this year and by 3% in average in the period 2020-22, according to forecasts made public by the Montenegrin government.

The 3.1% growth rate in 2019 was "assessed as a high growth rate after strong growth in the previous year," the government said in a statement. In 2018, the Montenegrin economy grew by 4.9%, the specialized portal SeeNews recalled.

The forecasted average real growth rate of the Montenegrin economy in 2020-2022 will be 3% and cumulative real GDP growth will be 12.6% between 2019 and 2022, the government added, forecasting that the net public debt is projected at about 67% of GDP in 2019 and will decline to 57.6% of GDP in 2022. "The medium-term macro-fiscal framework will be characterized by a surplus of public finances and a level of public debt in line with the Maastricht criterion," the government said in a statement.
