Latvia expelled Russian journalist Olga Kurlayeva
Moscow, Riga violates freedom of the press
04 January, 16:21Another Russian journalist, Anatoly Kuravlyov, who worked for the TVC channel, has already been expelled from Latvia. His name was added to the black list of people who have been denied entry into the country for an indefinite period.
The black list counts several thousand foreign citizens, including Russians. Latvia has refused to make this list public by citing confidentiality issues.
According to Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, "Riga seriously violates its international legal obligations on the guarantee of freedom of expression, tramples the basic principles of the United Nations, the OSCE and the Council of Europe". According to Tass, Zakharova added that "it is absolutely obvious that the Latvian authorities, with the silent support of Brussels, pursue the objective of completely cleaning up the information space from undesirable media".
