(ANSA) - BELGRADE, July 26 - European Commissioner for
Enlargement Johannes Hahn said in Belgrade today that the
dialogue between Belgrade and Priština is a key element for
further progress throughout the region and underlined the need
to find a 'lasting' solution.
After meeting PM Ana Brnabic in a joint press conference,
Hahn said that the European Commission, under the presidency of
Jean-Claude Juncker, was strongly committed to the region. Hahn
mentioned an agreement to reduce roaming costs as an example of
the progress already made.
The commissioner said that he discussed with the premier
numerous topics, remarking that democracy and the rule of law
are fundamental rights. Speaking about the region, he underlined
that significant progress had been made with North Macedonia and
expressed his conviction that member countries will give the
green light in October to Skopje and Tirana to start accession
negotiations.
Along with the prime minister, Hahn will attend the Youth
Sports Games. "This private initiative is a good example of
success because it brings together young people from all corners
of the region. These young athletes take part in one of the
world's biggest competitions, either in individual or team
sports," he said. "I am among the ambassadors of this initiative
and I strongly support it, and I am hoping that next year North
Macedonia will also be included," Hahn explained. (ANSA).
