Kosovo: Pacolli urges Vucic to recognize the independence

Open letter to the president, 'the wrong approach to history'

28 February, 16:59
(ANSA) - BELGRADE, FEB 28 - Kosovo's deputy premier and foreign minister Behgjet Pacolli has sent an open letter to Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic urging Belgrade to accept the reality and recognize Kosovo's independence. In what he called a 'goodwill' letter, Pacolli - the Serbian media reported - claimed that Vucic seems to have a wrong approach to history, and underlined that Kosovo is a country that is based on the values of freedom, democracy, and prosperity. With an indirect reference to Vucic's meeting with representatives of the Serb community in Kosovo, Pacolli said that the Kosovo Serbs live in a safe situation and within a legal and institutional framework.

''Denying the reality is a mistake'', he added. In his opinion, it is time for ''Serbia to allow the Serbs to live their lives free from interference''. A final agreement between Belgrade and Pristina, according to the foreign minister, is intended to mark a historic turning point towards a lasting peace between the two peoples. (ANSA).
