EU says to Vucic there's no room to praise past policies

Serbia's President referred to Milosevic

(ANSA) - BRUXELLES, SEPTEMBER 10 - EU spokesperson Maja Kocijancic said this morning the EU "must not leave any room for ambiguity or praise for those who uphold the policies of the past", which "brought a decade of suffering to the Western Balkans" and have to be "rejected and overcome". Yesterday, Serbia's President Aleksandar Vucic paid a visit to the northern part of Kosovo and said that "Milosevic was a great Serbian leader whose intentions were certainly for the best".

Kocijancic quoted the President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker: "Nationalism has never solved but created problems".

The ongoing talks between Belgrade and Pristina are "a very difficult process, but the two parties need space for this negotiation to take place", EU spokesperson said. EU is pushing Belgrade and Pristina to reach a deal by the end of the Commission's mandate, in May 2019. Even though talks take more time than planned "to reach an agreement is never a failure", Kocijancic said.(ANSA).
