Czech Rep.: EU prime minister has a conflict of interests

Babis denies media, from Brussels only a preliminary assessment

31 May, 17:15
(ANSA) - PRAGUE, MAY 31 - The EU Commission confirmed the conflict of interests of PM Andrej Babis, the Czech economic newspaper Hospodarske, Hn, reported. According to the newspaper, Brussels, after having carried out an audit, urges the restitution of the European funding that the agro-chemical-food holding Agrofert had cashed in since February 2018. Babis formally transferred the holding company to a trust company, but in fact, he remained its owner. "I am shocked by what the Czech media are claiming, that the European Commission wants the funding that my former company had collected to be repaid. That's not true!", Babis told CTK agency. According to PM, the news from Brussels is just a preliminary proposal and is thus considered confidential. "This is only the preliminary proposal that will be carefully analyzed. I reject this attitude and will do anything I can to change it," Babis said. (ANSA).
