(ANSA) - ZAGREB, FEBRUARY 6 - Croatia's conservative
government intends to introduce from next year the right to a
citizenship pension for those who do not qualify for a pension
based on the contributions they have paid.
The government led by Andrej Plenkovic presented on Tuesday
the proposal, which provides that Croatians over the age of 65
without a pension will be able to get 110 euros monthly,
regardless of their job in the past and any real estate they
own.
It is above all a measure to fight extreme poverty among the
elderly, given that estimates show that at the moment there are
about 60,000 elderly people, mostly women, who do not receive
any pension. Croatian rules provide for the right to a pension,
after a minimum of 15 years of contributions. The right to a
citizenship pension will also be guaranteed to foreigners but
after a minimum of 20 years of permanent residence in Croatia.
