A 250-kilogram aerial bomb from
World War II was discovered near the Slovenian-Italian border in
Nova Gorica, Slovenia, on Monday, according to the Slovenian
news agency STA. Preparations have been made for its removal,
which is expected to occur on Sunday, the agency informed. The
deactivation will be coordinated with Italy due to the need to
evacuate nearby residents.
The bomb was discovered while working on construction near
the Nova Gorica train station. According to Nova Gorica Mayor
Samo Turel, "it is fortunate that a catastrophe did not occur
then" after an excavator hit it and caused minor damage, STA
quoted him as saying.
