The president of the Regional Council of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Mauro Bordin, received the president of the Slovenian National Assembly, Urška Klakočar Zupančič, today in Trieste to discuss relations between the region and Slovenia and the already successful collaborations.
"The region bases its special autonomy on multiculturalism and multilingualism," Bordin remarked, "and the Slovenian language community is an important part of our regional community, to which a great deal of attention is also paid through interventions to support both investments and the cultural aspect. Our region and Slovenia have a relationship of mutual cooperation that we have strengthened over the years, through institutional commitments carried out jointly. I can confirm the absolute commitment of the Regional Council to stand by any initiative that strengthens this bond, which is a territorial, community and language bond. Still many challenges await us together in the future, a very important one being Nova Gorica-Gorizia European Capital of Culture, which is a showcase of how Fvg and Slovenia can work together by pooling wealth and heritage." Urška Klakočar Zupančič emphasized that "the Republic of Slovenia appreciates all the efforts made to protect linguistic minorities across borders and does so within its own borders as well. Something that distinguishes our state system is the guaranteed presence in Parliament of a representative of each national community. I hope," she pointed out, "there will be reciprocity in this regard, to guarantee rights, which are extensive." Citing some examples of cooperation already in place, the president mentioned Go!2025 and "the return of the Narodni Dom, which is not only a symbolic gesture, but of great importance for the Slovenian state, and then I want to emphasize," she added, "the Italy-Slovenia cross-border cooperation, which is excellent."
