The Greek government is growing
increasingly concerned about the recent increase in migrant
flows to Crete's southern shores, and it expects the European
Commission to intervene, according to the daily Kathimerini.
Migratory flows to Crete have increased in recent days, with
approximately 300 arriving over the weekend, and it is estimated
that approximately 1,500 people arrived by sea from Egypt to
Gavdos island, south of Crete, in the previous three months. The
majority of the migrants are Egyptian men, with a small
percentage claiming to be citizens of Bangladesh and Pakistan.
