Prosciutto di San Daniele Dop is
set to become one of the most popular Italian food and wine
products in both Italy and abroad, suggested data related to
2023. According to data from the Protection Consortium,
2,590,000 legs were produced in the 31 production plants located
in the city of San Daniele del Friuli, coming from 3,510
certified farms located in ten regions of Central-northern Italy
and delivered by the 44 slaughterhouses of the PDO supply chain.
According to the Consortium, the countries with the largest
export shares of Prosciutto di San Daniele are France, the
United States, Australia, Germany, and Belgium. Switzerland,
Austria, the United Kingdom, Luxembourg, and Canada are the
remaining major foreign target markets. In 2023, "excellent
performances" were recorded, in order of exported volume, for
the United States (+11%), Australia (+7%), the United Kingdom
(+30%), and the Czech Republic.
