Italy's men won the team pursuit at
the European track cycling championships at Grenchen in
Switzerland Thursday night.
The quartet of Azzurri, Filippo Ganna, Francesco Lamon, Jonathan
Milan and Manlio Moro, beat Great Britain and France.
Italy also got another gold earlier Thursday when Simone
Consonni, who won Olympic gold at Tokyo with the pursuit team,
won the points event ahead of Spain's Albert Torres Barceló and
Frenchman Donovan Grondin.
Also on Thursday, the women's pursuit team made up of Martina
Alzini, Elisa Balsamo, Martina Fidanza and Vittoria Guazzini got
the silver behind Great Britain and ahead of Germany.
Ganna, who led the winning men's quartet, said: "We wanted to
show we were there and that the GB team we saw at last year's
worlds was within our wheelhouse. And that's what we did."
